James Malinchak's Tips Regarding Training Your Staff For Entrepreneurs And Speakers

By Stanton Harper

This next words of advice is especially significant for your business as an entrepreneur and a speaker. You have to train your staff to respond your way. Yes, they are going to have ideas and yes, they will want to do things their own way. However, it's your business, and you don't have to accommodate them. They should accommodate you. Therefore, you need to prepare them to file how you want files filed. You need to guide them how to format an email your way. You need to train them how to deal with phone calls your way. When they do not do things properly, then the issue is with you since you didn't train them correctly or thoroughly.

Let me be truthful that I do understand that occasionally your employees have better ideas than you do. Nonetheless, until you are ready and able to comprehend what they're sharing, your way is the way things should be done. When you employ the correct people, they are going to develop ideas to make the entrepreneurial or speaking business run more proficiently. Nonetheless, it can't be efficient for you personally if you don't have time to understand it. Therefore, they'll need to be patient and do things your way up until you are able to reserve time to pay attention and learn from them.

Regardless of the brilliant ideas your employees would bring to you, if the new approach is not your style, then too bad since you are not adopting it. There should be no guilt and no remorse. Make sure to ask yourself, 'Who does the business belong to? Yes, you are the business owner so right or wrong, efficient or inefficient, it's your business that's established to suit you and your level of comfort. Now, at a later date, you've got the right to change your mind and try the brand new method. At the same time, you've got the right, since you own the business, to disregard a concept even before you see it.

Train your staff to handle daily problems. Train your staff to make decisions that are not essential for you to handle. For example, if I am speaking at my boot camp, I do not want my workers asking me questions regarding name badges, seating, rooms, signage, or anything else. They are to make decisions that do not require my attention. When you teach them right, absolutely nothing will need your attention when you're participating in something extremely powerful like holding your own bootcamp.

In training your employees to handle responsibility, you are going to have to train them, and then, you are going to need to stop micromanaging them. Additionally, you need to give them authority to make decisions. For instance, my CEO Davy Tyburski has my permission to remove someone from my boot camp if they're causing a problem. I do not need shit-disturbers or mama dramas at my events disturbing my guests, my audience, or my clients. Therefore, he has the authority and the responsibility to think for me. Since he was employed because he believed in me, my mission, and my goals, I trust him to make informed decisions for the good of my business. In teaching him what is expected of him, and in providing him the responsibility and authority to make those decisions, we have determined the proper way to train your employees to make your business fit you and your lifestyle.
